Business Bay is the central mixed-use district master-developed by Dubai Properties, part of Dubai Holding Real Estate, covering 64 million sq ft beside Downtown Dubai. Upwards of 240 buildings were planned and the district's infrastructure was completed in 2008. The Dubai Water Canal runs through it, and Dubai Holding cites roughly 100,000 occupants. Business Bay metro station on the Red Line opened in October 2010.
